There’s always something happening in downtown Towson – and
Hampton Plaza is right in the thick of things. Here’s a look at some of the
hottest local events happening all year long:
January
Baltimore County Restaurant Week starts in mid- to
late-January and – despite its moniker – lasts for about two weeks. Local
restaurants offer great deals on prix-fixe lunch and dinner menus. It’s an
ideal time to get out of the kitchen and get to know the area’s restaurants.
Towson University hosts the Bridges to the World
International Film Festival in February, featuring films from all over the
world. Discussions will follow the screenings of each film.
Get in the St. Patrick’s Day spirit with an Irish folk
dancing demonstration at the Towson library. Dancers from O’Connor School of
Irish Dance will perform on March 3, starting at 2 p.m.
Also on March 3, Towson University will host a Family Arts
Day, during which families can visit campus and take part on a variety of workshops
and interactive activities.
Several local organizations will celebrate Dr. Seuss’s
birthday this month. At Towson Town Center will honor the author with guest
readers, activities for kids and a visit from the Cat in the Hat.
And on March 10, have lunch with the Cat in the Hat at
Charles Village Pub, which is partnering with the library for a lunch complete
with story time and photos with the character.
On April 21, 2018, the third annual GBMC Walk A Mile In Her
Shoes walk will take place on the campus of GBMC. The walk, which begins at
9:30 a.m., is designed to help eliminate the stigmas of sexual violence and
domestic abuse.
April 28, 2018, Towson University lacrosse will host its
last home game of the year, competing against Fairfield University. The game is
at 11 a.m. at Johnny Unitas Stadium.
The fourth annual Taste of the Town, benefitting Baltimore
County Public Library, will take place in Towson on April 28, 2018. This year’s
theme is “Masquerade Speakeasy.”
On May 3, get up close and personal with the Towson
Courthouse Gardens during Towson Gardens Day.

The Towsontown Spring Festival, which takes places May
5-6,2018, might be the town’s biggest event of het year. The free festival
features great food, tons of fun vendors, live music and a party atmosphere
that’s not to be missed.
May 11-12, head to Towson University for the school’s 45th
annual Spring Pottery Fair, featuring ceramics, jewelry, glass and more, all
for sale and all created by TU ceramics students and faculty.
Towson’s weekly Friday night “Feet on the Street” parties
start for the season on May 18 (they last through early September). Every
Friday night, a different band will take over Allegheny Avenue. Bring chairs
and a picnic and enjoy the tunes. The party also includes a moon bounce for
kids and a bar serving beer, wine and cocktails for adults.
Towson quiets down a bit in the summer, when the students
leave for break and locals often head to the beach. But that doesn’t mean there
aren’t events to enjoy, including weekly Feet on the Street concerts all summer
long.
The Towson Farmer’s Market starts in mid-June and is held
every Thursday through mid-November. The market is on Allegheny Avenue and
features a variety of goods from local farms and other vendors.
Towson celebrates the USA’s independence on the 4th
of July, with a festive and fun parade that weaves through the heart of Towson.
With everything from a kids’ bike parade to marching bands, it’s a true
celebration of Americana.
Get to know the local restaurants while giving back to the
community at the Taste of Towson, an event sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce
and held at Towson University’s SECU Arena on Thursday, September 20,2018.
The Orakawa Y in Towson, located on West Chesapeake Avenue,
hosts an annual Turkey Trot the morning of Thanksgiving. The race is open to Y
members and non-members alike. The course, which starts and ends at the Y,
waves through West Towson and Southland Hills.

Though the 2018 dates have not yet been announced, Towson’s
annual Winterfest is a popular way to celebrate the season downtown.
Winterfest includes a tree lighting ceremony, breakfasts
with Santa and “Ho Ho Happy Hours” for adults.
