Summertime Fun in Downtown Towson

A pair of sunglasses on the sand at sunset, symbolizing summer.

With many students heading home after school ends for the year, Towson has a sleepy – but fun – vibe during the summer months. Still, there’s plenty to do around town during June, July, and August. Here’s a look at what’s happening in the Hampton Plaza Apartments neighborhood:

At the Schools
Even though school is out for summer, those who stick around our local college campuses organize fun events for the whole community.

Towson university

Towson University, along with its Athletics Department, is hosting a free movie night on Friday, June 16. The movie – “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” – is open to the public and will be screened in Johnny Unitas Stadium starting at 6:30 p.m. There will also be free Rita’s Italian Ice and Ledo’s pizza available for purchase.

The event is free though the donation of non-perishable items to benefit the TU Food Pantry is welcome.

The TU arts community doesn’t rest in the summer, either. From July 1 through August 4, visit the Holtzman MFA Gallery to enjoy the current exhibit, called “Again.” The exhibit’s works draw on the theme of renewal, repetition, and reuse.

During the summer, Towson will also offer group fitness classes at Burdick Hall. Options include pilates, cycling, yoga and TRX & kettleball bootcamp. Registration is required.

Goucher college

Goucher also offers pilates throughout the summer, including beginners’ mat classes on Mondays and Wednesdays.

For more information about what’s happening at both schools, check out their events calendars:
