Spring Is on Its Way in Downtown Towson

With the weather warming up and restaurant and gym capacity restrictions lifted in Baltimore County (as of 5 p.m. on March 12), spirits are high in the Towson community. Local spots have many plans in the works to celebrate the new season. Here’s a look at what’s happening right outside the doors of Hampton Plaza Apartments:
Perennial News
Olympic Place restaurant Cunningham’s closed last year, during the pandemic. This year, the space has received a refresh by celebrated local designer Patrick Sutton and when the restaurant inside reopens this spring, it will be called Perennial.
Cunningham’s chef Jay Rohlfing – who is terrific – remains at the helm and Perennial will also carry on Cunningham’s commitment to work with local farmers and purveyors.
St. Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick’s Day is officially Wednesday, March 17, but at many Towson eateries, the celebration of the Irish lasts all month long. Keep an eye out for specials (like Reuben sandwiches at Barley’s, Guinness beef stew at CVP, and Guinness Blonde deals at C&R) and fun events, like kegs and eggs at The Point.
Plus, Towson restaurants and bars are banding together the weekend before St. Patrick’s Day, hosting an Irish stroll on Saturday March 13. There will be fun specials and entertainment at several downtown Towson spots, including Nacho Mama’s, The Point, Rec Room, Barley’s Backyard Uptown, and CVP.
Pop-ups at The Point
The Point is continuing its pop-up series, welcoming chefs from different spots around the city for kitchen takeovers. On Monday, March 22, Chef Jonny Lease will offer a fun BBQ menu – and there are more pop-ups to come, too.
Maryland Day at THB
Maryland Day is March 25 and Towson Hot Bagel has fun plans in store for the holiday. The Towson bagelry is serving fun Maryland flag themed bagels that day (they’re available for pre-order, too) and will host a “Feed the Industry” event in partnership with the Baltimore Restaurant Relief Fund.
During the event, THB will provide a meal to unemployed/underemployed members of Baltimore’s restaurant community who sign up via the BRRF website.
Paint Your Pet at The Point
On Thursday, March 25, head to The Point with a photo of your favorite pet for a night of sips, snacks, and pet portrait painting.
Live Music Returns to the Recher
After an 8-year hiatus, live music returns this month to The Recher Theater.
Opening night is March 19 – local icons Kelly Bell Band will take the stage for the first show. That concert is sold out already but there will be plenty more to follow, including a comedy show hosted by Mickey Cucchiella on March 20 and The Dirty Grass Players on March 26.
The Recher isn’t the only live music venue in town, either – keep an eye on social media for spots like C&R, The Point and Barley’s. They frequently host smaller acts, both on weekends and weeknights.
Upcoming Events
There’s much to look forward to over the next several months, including the return of Towson Gardens Day on April 29, a new season of Feet on the Street starting May 7, and the renewal of the Towson Farmer’s Market on June 3.
