With school back in session, temperatures dropping and leaves starting to change their colors, it’s starting to feel like fall in Towson. This is a great season for the town, full of fun events and activities. Here’s a look at what’s happening near Hampton Plaza Apartments this autumn:

Uptown Roar

On Friday, Sept. 23, downtown Towson will come alive during the second annual Uptown Roar. The event, which is co-hosted by the Towson Chamber of Commerce and Towson University Athletics, is a fun outdoor pep rally with live music, food from local restaurants, plus performances by the TU cheerleaders and pom squad and appearances by the Towson mascot, Doc the Tiger, and many student-athletes.

Uptown Roar takes place on W. Pennsylvania Ave. and starts at 6:30 p.m.

Hampton Plaza Craft Show & Flea Market

On Thursday, Oct. 6, Hampton Plaza will welcome the community to a Craft Show & Flea Market. The market, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Hampton Plaza Courtyard, will include all kinds of goodies, including comic books, jewelry, and one-of-a-kind wreaths. Plus, there will be live music and baked goods to enjoy.

In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved to Oct. 13.

At the Schools

Fall sports are in full swing at both Towson University and Goucher College.

At Towson, the football team is at home on Sept. 24 (vs. New Hampshire), Oct. 1 (vs. Delaware), Oct. 22 (vs. William & Mary) then not again until Nov. 5, when they take on Villanova. They close out their regular season with a game against Hampton on Nov. 19.

The women’s soccer team is also busy this season, with home games against Monmouth (Sept. 22), Northeaster (Sept. 25), Hampton (Oct. 16) and Elon (Oct. 23). The school also might host a CAA conference quarterfinal game on Oct. 27.

At Goucher, women’s volleyball has games scheduled throughout September and October, including evening games on Oct. 1 (vs. Scranton), Oct. 12 (vs. Penn State Harrisburg), Oct. 14 (vs. Penn State York) and Oct. 19 (vs. Catholic).

Women’s and men’s soccer also have packed schedules, including Saturday games vs. Drew (Sept. 24), Susquehanna (Oct. 8) and Moravian (Oct. 29).

There are also multiple arts and literature events taking place, including a Sept. 25 performance by Towson director of classical guitar studies Troy King and an Oct. 5 talk with alumna Linda G. Morris about her new book, Cherry Hill: Raising Successful Black Children in Jim Crow Baltimore.

What’s Happening at The Recher

The Recher’s fall lineup is shaping up to be a great one, including VEER with The OddEven and Letterbox on Sept. 30, the Grateful Dead Tribute act Dancing Bears, along with Luvable Idiots, on Oct. 8, and Cris Jacobs with Caleb Stine on Oct. 21.

Harvest Live at WTMD

Towson’s radio station, WTMD, is opening the doors of its Olympic Place studio on Friday, Sept. 23, for a performance of Neil Young’s famous album “Harvest,” which turns 50 this year.

The album will be performed by a variety of musicians, including The Old Part of Town, June Star, The Honey Dewdrops and Anne Watts & The Noctones. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. and tickets are available now.

Restaurant & Bar Scene

Fall is always fun at Towson bars and restaurants. Local spots offer regular drink and food specials during professional and college football games and get excited about the holidays scattered throughout the season, from Halloween to the legendary Thanksgiving Eve party.

Many spots already have plans in place for later this season, including:

Sept. 24, The Point hosts DJ Blake Unger for Fall Beats & Brunch, a daytime party featuring bottomless drinks and brunch starting at 10 a.m. and music starting at noon.

C&R Pub has live music booked on Friday nights throughout the fall, including Katelyn on Sept. 30, HOSS on Oct. 14, Jimmy Solesky on Oct. 28 and Nicky Stacy Duo on Nov. 18.

On Nov. 11, CVP has Midlife Crisis booked starting at 6 p.m. The New Jersey-based band regularly performs throughout the Mid-Atlantic and should be a great time.

Perennial’s daily happy hour music is still going strong. Every day, the restaurant hosts live music on the patio from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Giving Back

This season, local businesses are giving back to the community and providing ways to make it easy to help.

Throughout September, THB is recognizing Suicide Prevention Month with purple and teal bagels, available every Wednesday. A portion of each of these bagels sold will be donated to Nico’s Hope for Life Foundation.

Towson Town Center is hosting a food drive for the Maryland Food Bank, from now through the end of September. During that time, the mall accepts donations of canned goods at the Mall Management Office, which is on the lower level, near the Security Office. The donations will be transported directly to the food bank.

Towson Farmers’ Market

As the days get shorter, the mix of produce and goods available at the Towson Farmer’s Market evolves – there’s always something new and interesting to see. The market pops up on Allegheny Ave. every Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. from now through Nov. 18.
