With cherry blossoms blooming and daffodils spreading their bright yellow petals, spring has sprung in downtown Towson. This is a fun season for this college town, with plenty of events in store for Hampton Plaza Apartments residents and locals of all ages. Here’s a look at what’s coming up over the next few months:
At the Schools
Spring sports seasons are in full swing at Towson University and Goucher College.
Sports in season this spring include baseball, softball, gymnastics, and men’s and women’s lacrosse, plus swimming and diving championship events.
Bonus: during Towson men’s lacrosse games, you can visit with your favorite Barley’s Backyard Uptown employees at their beer tent.
Goucher’s sports teams include men’s and women’s lacrosse, tennis and track and field.
This semester is also a terrific time to check out
arts events at local schools, including exhibitions by current MFA candidates at Towson, presented in the Holtzman MFA Gallery, and performances like a concert by Greek vocalists Alkistis Protopsalti and Dmitris Mpasis at Goucher’s Kraushaar Auditorium on May 6.

What’s Happening at The Recher
Recher’s lineup this spring is eclectic and amazing, just like always.
March includes performances from The Ocean Blue (March 18), Biff with Idleminds and Subtastics (March 24) and Joywave (March 30).
April kicks off with a show from Kind Hearted Strangers on April 7 followed by Grateful Dead for Kids, a 10 a.m. show organized by WTMD, featuring performances from multiple artists. More April artists include Boat House Row (April 15 in the evening), The Summer Set (April 19), Cabinet (April 22) and The Gathering Gloom and Caligula Bloodshed (April 29).
On Saturday, May 6, Better Off Dead takes the stage and the following week, Emma White performs on May 12 and Kings of the Wild Things and STMNTS host a dual album release event on May 13.
Restaurant News
Towson has a handful of new and new-ish restaurants, including Raising Cane’s, which is beloved for its fried chicken and sauces, and Kung Fu 12 Sushi at 416 York Rd. Also, the bakery Roggenart, which has a couple Howard County locations and was formerly located on Falls Rd. in Mt. Washington, has opened in Towson.

St. Patrick’s Day
In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, Towson Hot Bagel is bringing back its popular green, white and orange bagels; they are available in-store on March 17 and can be pre-ordered online starting March 15.
CVP’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations start off sweet on March 14, when the pub hosts a kid’s craft event starting at 5:30 p.m.
During St. Pat’s weekend, the pub will also have deals on drinks, like $3.17 domestic bottles and green and white tea shots.
Barley’s Backyard Uptown has multiple events during the week leading up to St. Patrick’s Day, including a kegs and eggs brunch on March 12, karaoke on Wednesday, and Irish specials all week long.
At C&R, St. Patrick’s Day specials include drinks like $6 Guinness pints and $6 Jameson shots.
World of Beer specials includes $6 pints of Guinness and Smithwick’s and $6 shots of Jameson.
The Point in Towson will be bustling on St. Patrick’s Day with live music starting at 5 p.m. followed by a DJ from 10 p.m. to close. The bar opens at 11 a.m. and throughout the day and night, there will be a “beat the clock” tiered pricing system, so the earlier you get there, the less expensive the drinks will be. The clock starts at 11 a.m. and then resets at 6 p.m. Plus, the first 30 people in will receive a free Irish coffee.
Nacho Mama’s has a twist on standard Irish fare with dishes like a corned beef quesadilla and a brilliant green asparagus jalapeno soup on the menu through the month of March. The Mexican spot will also offer traditional corned beef and cabbage and corned beef sandwiches, plus drink specials including $3 Guinness cans.
More Spring Restaurant & Bar Fun
During Lent, Red Pepper Sichuan Bistro has meatless Fridays covered. The Chinese restaurant has been featuring different meatless dishes, including a deep-fried squirrel fish in bright orange sauce.
For Maryland Day, starting March 24, C&R will offer special deals on Old Line State drinks, including $4 Guinness Blondes and $2 Natty Bohs.
The pub also welcomes musician Jon Zorn that night to entertain the crowd.
THB also gets into the Maryland Day spirit with red, black and yellow bagels, which are available for pre-order ahead of the holiday.

Barley’s also has live music scheduled for Friday, March 31, when the Midlife Crisis Band will perform.
Banditos has a new happy hour menu with great deals on tacos, chips and salsa, margaritas and Mexican beers between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Monday through Friday.
Nacho Mama’s is planning ahead for Easter season, already taking reservations for its Easter Bunny Brunch, during which kids eat free with the purchase of an adult entrée.
Towsontown Spring Festival
One of downtown Towson’s most fun weekends of the year returns this year on May 6 and 7: the Towsontown Spring Festival. With everything from live music and carnival rides, a garden day preview event, and fun vendors, the festival has a little something for Towsonites of all ages and interests.
Historic Walking Tour
When you’re out and about walking around Towson, keep an eye out for new signs that provide information about historic locations throughout the town. The signs tell the story of locations like the Schmuck House at 617 York Road, which is the oldest still-standing building in Towson, and Prospect Hill Cemetery.
