As the leaves begin to fall and Towson locals gear up for Halloween and the holidays beyond, there’s a fun vibe in the air. October is a busy time in downtown Towson, with plenty of reasons to head out and enjoy the neighborhood.

Here’s a look at what’s coming up around town this month:

Café Troia says goodbye – but Bandito’s will open

Cafe Troia, the Italian restaurant that has been beloved by Towsonites for decades, served its last meal in late September. While that’s disappointing news, its space won’t be empty for long. Locally-owned Mexican food spot, Banditos Bar & Kitchen, has plans to open in the space.

Towson Fall Festival

On Sunday, Oct. 10, Patriot Plaza and the blocks of Pennsylvania and Washington will light up with fun during the Towson Fall Festival. The festival, which starts at 11 a.m. and lasts until 7 p.m., features food trucks, local vendors, fun activities for kids, including moon bounces and face painting, and beer, wine and cocktails (drinks in the plaza itself).

There will also be live music from That’s What She Said and Crushing Day.

Fun at the Library

All month long, the Towson library hosts outdoor story times on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The 30-minute story times are designed for preschool-aged children.

On Saturday, Oct. 23, the library hosts “Keeping the Beat: Multicultural Influences in American Music and Dance,” a fun performance that’s great for elementary school-aged kids and more. The hour-long show starts at 11 a.m.

Party on Penn

On Friday, Oct. 15, head to West Pennsylvania Ave. for the “Uptown Roar” Party on Penn. The party starts at 6:30 p.m. and will feature food and drinks from CVP, The Point, Nacho Mama’s, Coffee Talk Café, Kyodai Sushi, and Slice Pizza, plus live music from the Sundogs and appearances by Towson University’s cheerleaders, pom squad and mascot.

Choices include drinks like Ghostbusters’ Slimer (orange vodka, sour apple and melon liqueur and lemonade) and the Dracula (tequila, ancho chili liqueur, strawberry puree and housemade sour mix). Scary – but sounds delicious!

Gameday Specials

We’re in the thick of football season and whether you’re a diehard Ravens fan, cheer for another team, or just like the camaraderie of gameday, local bars and restaurants have you covered in terms of football specials.
