A Fresh Start for 2021 in Downtown Towson

2021-karolina-grabowska

In every corner of the world – including the halls of Hampton Plaza Apartments – this new year has been welcomed with open arms.

Here in Towson, the year is starting off strong, with fun restaurant and bar events, deals that will help you get and stay in shape, and a couple new spas that will help Towsonites look and feel great. Here’s a look at what’s new in town:

Restaurant News

It’s important to keep moving! Fortunately, there are tons of options to help you get motivated. You might even find a new workout routine you love during this time of social distancing.

Baltimore magazine has rounded up links to many local trainers and exercise studios that are offering classes online. Read them all here: https://www.baltimoremagazine.com/section/health/home-workouts-from-local-trainers-to-do-while-social-distancing

Other local fitness professionals sharing classes include Timonium-based barre studio Barrevolution, which is is offering short free classes on its Facebook page, and Baltimore yoga teacher Abir Alzenate, who is sharing free classes on her website.

Towson restaurants are still open at limited capacity and continue to take additional safety precautions to limit the spread of COVID-19, so before heading out, keep in mind that they may fill up quickly and make sure you have your mask.

Fans of Nacho Mama’s sister restaurant, Mama’s on the Half Shell in Canton, have something fun to look forward to: the Towson Mexican spot has added some of the Half Shell menu items to its lineup. Mama’s on the Half Shell is well-known for its terrific take on local seafood dishes, so this is great news for anyone who loves Chesapeake-region cuisine.

National Bagel Day Giveaway

On Friday, Jan. 15, THB celebrates National Bagel Day with a free bagel and cream cheese for anyone who purchases a beverage via the myTHB mobile app. In addition, a portion of sales that day will go to the Baltimore Restaurant Relief Fund, a nonprofit formed to support local hospitality industry workers who have been negatively impacted by COVID-related closings.

The Point

The Point has live music starting at 6 p.m. every Friday and Saturday. Keep an eye out, too, for evenings supporting the restaurant’s displaced workers from the Fells Point location – heading there for dinner or a drink on nights when the Fells crew is working is a great way to support those employees, since their location is currently closed for indoor or outdoor dining.

The Point is also hosting a Disney Drag brunch on Jan. 16. Seating is limited and the restaurant’s drag brunches sell out, so grab tickets while they’re still available.

Dine & Delight at the Mall

Towson Town Center restaurants have a fun new program in place. When you spend $50 or more ordering from one of 16 mall eateries, you’ll receive a $20 reward card. The promotion lasts through Feb. 28 and includes places like The Brass Tap, Chick-fil-A, and Stoney River.

Football Fun

The Ravens have clinched their playoff berth, which means Lamar and his crew will continue to keep Towsonites on their edges of their seats in January.

New Spa Alerts

Touch Free Wellness Spa

Touch Free Wellness Spa recently opened in the former YogaWorks space on Allegheny Ave. The spa offers cryotherapy, hydro-massage and infrared sauna pods, among other services, and no practitioners are involved (hence the “touch-free” part of the name).

Services are offered in private rooms for one or two people at a time. Because the spaces are private,  masks are not required in those rooms (though they are required in the lobby).

Speaking of spas…OCB Spa moved into Dulaney Plaza in October. Right now, the beauty spa is partnering with Towne Barre, offering 21% off a first service to all Towne Barre clients.

Getting Fit

If your 2021 goals include starting – or continuing – a fitness regimen, downtown Towson is a great place to be.
