Downtown Towson: What’s New in 2022

2022

Out with the old and in with the new – it’s a new year and time for a fresh start in downtown Towson. The year is already looking like a fun and busy one for residents of Hampton Plaza Apartments, with plenty of events planned and good news on the horizon.

Whole Foods Opens

After years of anticipation, the opening of the new Whole Foods Market in Towson is finally here. The popular grocery store opens its Towson outpost on January 14.

The store is located at 300 Towson Row and is visible from York Road. In addition to a wide selection of high quality foods and beverages – including many local products – the new Whole Foods will include a full-service coffee bar and an upstairs mezzanine with a lounge, arcade and local seating. There will also be a community room available for meetings.

The Loop

The Towson Loop, the new circulator bus that debuted last year, is still going strong in the downtown Towson area.

The Loop has two routes, both of which are convenient for residents of Hampton Plaza Apartments.

The Purple line, which runs north to south, travels through GBMC and St. Joseph Medical Center on the south side, to just past Fairmount Ave. to the north.

The east-west Orange line stretches from The Exchange on Kenilworth Drive in the east all the way to Towson Place, where Target and Walmart are located, in the west.

Both lines have stops along Joppa Road, near Hampton Plaza

National Bagel Day

January 15 is National Bagel Day and Towson Hot Bagel has big plans to help locals celebrate. All THB guests will receive a free bagel and cream cheese on the 15th. Plus, a portion of all proceeds from the day will be donated to the Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital.

For a limited time, you can also wash that down with an Old Bay hot chocolate. THB has partnered with the crew at McCormick to create a spicy-sweet seasonal beverage designed to keep you warm.

What’s Happening at The Recher

The Recher Theater has been a busy spot for live music for the past few months – and that will continue moving forward. However, given the current rise in COVID cases, some shows may be rescheduled or cancelled.

The theater has several shows scheduled during January, including Relentless Souls, Echo 2 Locate, The Stifled, KOTWT and No Promises on January 14, local favorites Crack the Sky on January 15 and Yutzie with The Luvable Idiots and Jordan Gillis Band on January 21.

However, they have also announced that the Grateful Dead tribute show by the Dancing Bears will no longer take place on January 8. The show has been rescheduled for May.

Downtown Fun

Downtown Towson bars and restaurants are kicking off the new year with fun activities.
